About Operation Wallacea Guyana 2018 - Aaron Rondel

Hey! Please help me get to the Iwokrama forest, Guyana this year to work with Operation Wallacea to help conserve this amazing section of rainforest! Now, I'm sure you all know the huge global issue that is, deforestation in the world's rainforests, and the detrimental it is having on the planet's most endangered species. That why I want to go do my own part in helping Operation Wallacea to help reduce these daming effects. Hopefully with a bit of love and help from your beautiful self. So, down to the details... The Iwokrama Forest consists of one million acres of continuous rainforest, in the Guiana Shield, Guyana. The forest was handed out to the Commonwealth Secretariat to manage. The decision was taken to allocate half of the forest to undistrubed wildness (awesome!). The other half is selectively logged, to generate income for the local communities, whilst stimultaneously protecting the local biodiversity (equally awesome!). The result is only 5% of the trees being harvested (hooray!). For those who don't know, selective logging is chopping down only select trees which fulfil a certain criterion, often those that offer a limited advantage to biodiversity. Now for the fun part, what I will be doing... I will be spending two weeks camping in remote rainforest, with only my hammack and a mosquito net seperate me from the jungle ... wonderful. I'll be working along side research scientists in the area to survey the abundance of many species, including ... the dung beatle, jaguar, puma, anaconda (eekkk!), tapirs, harpy eagles (and their whopping 6 foot wing span), toucans, kingfishers, raptor eagles, caiman, giant river otters ... you get the idea! The aim is to compare the abundace of all these beautiful species in the undisturbed wildnerness, and in the area, where selective logging occurs. Hopefully, this will give the team and Wallacea an idea of the effects the selective logging is having on the biodiversity, and whether it is sustainable. JOB DONE! PLEASE BE A TOTAL BABE AND HELP ME RAISE ENOUGH TO GO ON THIS AMAZING TRIP. I am extremely grateful for anything that you can give, I'm just impress that you read to this far, you star! If nothing about this amazing conservation has convinced you to donate, just think of me, petrified of snakes, coming face-to-face with an anaconda.
