I have been luckily enough to sign up and be part of the Team Venezuela group from my school, Milnes High School. Myself and ten peers along with two great teachers and a World Challenge leader are leaving behind our quiet highland village of Fochabers for 3 weeks and entering the jungle as we travel for 5 days by boat to the communities in the Upper Caura River as we live with them for a week. We are one of the 12 teams traveling to this region and our aim is to benefit the local community either through schools, clinics, water projects or latrines. Such things we take for granted every day that but things that will improve their lives. Our day to day life on the project will consist of work and cultural interaction, this part I am really excited for to learn about a new culture. During our stay on our project, we will be either staying in tents on the village grounds or staying in a community building either way we may not have any electricity or running water so the conditions will be basic but we aren't traveling half way round the world to experience what we are used to! As a team we will be researching our villages traditions and trying to learn some of the local lingo to be as respectable as possible in order to understand their way of life. We don't aim to change their way of lives to be more like our Western ways but to improve sanitation and education by schools and health clinics. I can not wait to go on the biggest adventure of my life to a part of the world so remote and untouched and I hope to make a positive impact of the people I meet and as a team we leave work that will help the community that welcomed us.
