About Operation Wallacea Mexico 2016 - Alba Landra

This summer I'll be working as a volunteer with Operation Wallacea and will be travelling to Calakmul and Akumal in Mexico for a month to assist researchers in trying to monitor the biodiversity there and work with locals to improve current conservation programs. I'll be tracking animals such as jaguars and tapirs as well as reptiles, bats and birds to see what effect deforestation is having on their populations. I'll also be diving in Akumal to monitor sea turtle populations, which as a result of tourism are falling - all species are either endangered or critically so. I'll also be taking part in emergency beach clean ups to ensure baby sea turtles can reach the sea safely. In order to do all this, I need to raise Â£2500 to pay for flights, research equipment and teaching, as well as helping to pay the Mexican locals who provide us with food and accommodation.
