East African Playground Uganda 2018 - Carla Drake

I have signed up for the GORILLA TREK with East African Playgrounds in late August 2018. East African Playgrounds lets children be children. The non-profit organisation builds safe and fun playgrounds all over Uganda; even in refugee camps, this helps to empower some of the world's most disadvantaged children! This is an exciting opportunity for the children and also me to be a part of a momentous experience! I will be spending over THREE WEEKS IN UGANDA !! At the beginning of my journey I will be trekking through the rainforest and swamps, climbing mountains and canoeing across lakes, to then help the conservation of the endangered Silverback Gorillas. Next my journey will continue within the local community of Uganda where I will help build a playground and assist on a creative play programme for some of the worlds most disadvantaged children. Nearly half the population of Uganda are children! Some of the benefits EAP projects have had on children include higher school enrolment, better attendance, improved concentration and a reduction in anti-social behaviour. This is alongside all the standard benefits that play gives a child; physical, cognitive, emotional and social skills makes a huge difference to their lives in East Africa.
