Clipper Round the World Yacht Race 2015/16 - Graham Headicar

Hello, I'm Adam and I'd like to raise some money for my friend Graham by leading an expedition of 10 people to the summit of the 3 highest mountains in Great Britain in under 24 hours. It's a tough day I'm sure you'll agree, but Graham had a bit of a tough year last year and... well maybe I should let him explain................... "I was sitting at work at the start of a usual Monday when the next thing I realised I was being helped into an ambulance. That was my first seizure I had ever experienced. They found a brain tumour and said it was a grade 2 glioma. They monitored me for 6 months. Then on the 8th of June I had 5 seizures in one day. I was then going to have an awake craniotomy which is surgery where they keep me awake, open my skull and remove part of my brain. I could give you lots of details but I can tell you that I have been in better places. A week later the surgeons told me that 90% was taken out (good) but it was malignant (bad). So I was diagnosed now with a grade 3 anaplastic astrocytoma. I looked at some answers on the internet but didn't really want to see anymore prognosis, as far as I was concerned that is not me. I then started my Radiotherepy. On my journey to the UCLH hospital I got off the tube and was immediately struck by a poster that I saw. It said Clipper Round The World, The Race Of Your Life!, recruits wanted. A week later I had an interview with the recruitment officer, told him of my circumstances and he immediately said I could be part of the crew. I cried. It suddenly became a goal for me to achieve and fight against my disease. To do something like this is a once in a lifetime thing and I want to show myself and my family that anything is possible and give myself a chance to survive something that is terrifying and very real. At the time I didn't realise that I would have to raise money to achieve this. I need to get £11,000 pounds to get on the trip. If I can do this then from there I can raise more money for this awful disease to help other people fight it.".................As I said, he had a tough year. This is why we want to do all we can to get Graham on that boat. We probably won't raise the whole amount but hopefully we can do enough to give our friend the once in a lifetime adventure that he deserves.
