Harlow Stroke Support - Rehab Centre

Harlow Stroke Support-Rehab Centre is a Non-Medical Charity. We help and support Stroke Survivors and their Carers and families. We do this by first doing a home visit, to discuss needs and help with benefits, form filling etc. We then offer them a place at our Rehab Sessions. We run 1 weekly session for Speech and Language. This consists of speech and communication for those that struggle to talk or find the right words to say. Or with lost verbal skills and need other ways to communicate. We also work on reading, writing, Math's. Building concentration and confidence. Plus cognitive behaviour like processing information and actions. We then have 2 chair base exercise sessions a week. This will include wheelchair users. We help strengthen muscles, legs, arms, core etc. This also helps with everyday activities like dressing and putting on your shoes. This exercise session also includes a 10minute relaxation part. We run a under 65s session, that helps our younger stroke survivors, that suffer some times different problems, work, finances and to be faced with all the things they cannot do any more, which causes lots of frustration and depression. Also a very scary time. We also have a monthly Carers group. At all these sessions we then take time to talk to everyone, to see how they are progressing, and also to check how they are doing, and if there is anything else we can help with. We also do trips out in the community, to build confidence.
