We are an historic church and Tudor Schoolrrom set in the very heart of Gloucester on Southgate Street. It is believed that there has been a religious building here since the Roman times. Many interesting people are associated with the buildings: Robert Raikes, George Whitefield, Jemmy wood (Inspiration for Charles Dickens, Scrooge in a Christmas Carol), William Ernest henley (Invictus poem and inspiration for Long John Silver), amongst many others. The Schoolroom was built in 1539 and is the oldest free school in the city. It continues, on another site as the Crypt School. We are a working church that is also a heritage centre, open free to the public for 5 days a week. We host, concerts, theatre, art exhibitions, parties and much more. We have a small tearoom and shop and offer room hire for the community. We are very connected to the local community as well as being an important tourist site for the city. We depend on income from the tearoom, shop, room hires and donations to keep these beautiful and historic buildings open to the public.
