Young Women's Outreach Project

The Young Women's Outreach Project (YWOP) was established in 1992 to work alongside young women and young mothers from across Gateshead. We are led by women for young women and our mission is to "work collaboratively with young women to build confidence, self worth and opportunity in a safe and nurturing environment" We believe that long term health, social and economic inequalities disproportionately impact on young women. This leads to single and complex issues occurring in their lives and is linked to lower health, mental health and socioeconomic outcomes over the course of her life. We provide group work, advocacy, one to one, specialist parenting and pregnancy support, therapeutic mental health and early intervention work. We also have a very close network of partners who work out of our building to ensure young women in the LGBTQ+ community (PLUS group), and neurodivergent young women, have a safe space to access specialist support, when they need it most.
