How will you promote your club fundraiser to your members and community?

You already have a number of ways that you communicate with your membership, including:

📣 WhatsApp

📣 Social media

📣 Newsletters / Email

📣 Banners / Noticeboards

📣 Club website

📣 Event handouts

The important thing is that you use the appropriate channel. If holding an online fundraiser, keeping all the information online is a good idea – you can directly link members to where they need to go and do. For events, consider local door drops and banners, handouts in the clubhouse/spectator areas to reach those outside of your internal comms.

The seasonal schedule

During the season, your members / community are naturally more engaged with the club – attending more frequently etc. which means this is a great time to promote and host fundraising events. However, during the off season, you need to be a bit more savvy and creative. Use a selection from the options below, plenty of variety and some ‘always on’ raisers alongside events.

Fundraise through online shopping, for free!

Players / committee members, families, in fact the entire club community can collect a free donation for your club when they shop online. You can register your sports club as a cause on easyfundraising, then encourage your community to sign up in support. There is no cost to sign up for either your club or your supporters.

Then each time they shop with any of the 8,000 retailers we partner with, they’ll get a cashback donation courtesy of the retailer, which could be as much as 15% of the total they spend. They just have to visit the retailers website via the easyfundraising app, website or donation reminder and their donation will be raised. Easy, free and something that can run all year round – especially effective during the festive period! From groceries to insurance, fashion to toys, every online buy raises funds.

Almost £8m has been raised for sports clubs through easyfundraising to date.

An online lottery

There are a number of different lottery platforms out there which will enable your club to earn donations from your community playing an online lottery each week. 50% of tickets sales will go to your club and members could win a substantial weekly prize. Search for online lottery fundraisers and choose a provider. Note however that this is a form of gambling to raise money, so do check out all of the legal information before you sign up!

Offline fundraising ideas for sports clubs

raffle tickets

Event/game day collections or raffles

While supporters are pitch/pool/court side, they are a captive audience for fundraising! Walk around with a collection tin asking for donations or more effective than that, buy a raffle prize such as a bottle of wine or a voucher and sell tickets. Doesn’t matter how entertaining the match is then, you’ll still get some willing contributors! It may not be all that profitable, but every little will help each match week.

Half-time competitions

Give some fans the chance to score a penalty, bowl at the stumps, kick a conversion – whatever your sport, charge them for the chance and add some extra excitement with a prize at the end, even if it’s just a free drink at the clubhouse bar for those who are successful.

Clubhouse quiz nights / theme nights and events

Holding events at your clubhouse is a great way to raise – there are a host of resources available to help you hold a successful quiz along with pre-prepared questions. How about a theme night? Talent night – the possibilities are endless! Even if you don’t have a clubhouse, you could always hold a BBQ, bonfire or other outdoor event on site. Be sure to give the community plenty of notice and make sure you do a full health and safety assessment on parking etc. before you commit.

Clubhouse leasing

During the off-season, if there is less need for some of your facilities, why not hire them out as a party venue, working space or networking event host? You may be required to invest into your venue to make it an attractive proposition, but the more you invest, likely the more you will raise from leasing it out.

washing car

Pop up car wash

Ask players / committee / members to volunteer to wash cars on site during the odd weekend during the off season, or even on game days. Charge a small amount per car (maybe try and undercut some of the ‘professional’ outfits that are near by) and watch the funds roll in.

Bag packing

Junior teams, senior teams, committee – give up some time to help shoppers at a local supermarket pack their bags. It’s a great way to raise awareness about the club and do something good for the community, while raising some extra cash.

Kids football training

Off season kids training sessions

If you have some underused facilities and equipment during the off season, perhaps some of your coaches can give up their time to coach some youngsters while they’re on their school holidays? Charge a flat fee or hourly rate and invite youngsters to come along – ask local schools to give handouts to children and encourage them to keep active and learn new skills. All while attracting new members and raising funds.

Buddy nights

Particularly handy for juniors but could apply to senior teams too – allow members to bring a friend to a training session and have a taster of the club. Charge a fee for their attendance and you’ll soon see the funds roll in – plus a jump in membership numbers too!
